Canaveral National Seashore Island Hang Planning March 24-27

Since the other planning thread for this hang did not have a date in the title, I thought it prudent to begin a new thread.

I will be reserving an island campsite on Canaveral National Seashore for the week of 21-27. Timberrr and I won't be arriving until the 24th, but anyone wanting to arrive early is welcome to do so.

Canaveral National Seashore offers many interpretive programs throughout the month. Here are a few things copied from their website going on that week within easy paddling distance from the campsites:

    WEDNESDAY 23rd – 10:00 AM – “CAST NETTING”
Learn the skill and grace that goes along with this fun hobby. If you have a cast net, please feel free to bring it with you (we will provide a few nets). Bring water and insect repellant. Park in parking lot #1 and walk across the street to the boat ramp. (1 hour)

    THURSDAY 24th - 10:00 AM-12:00 PM - “CANOE MOSQUITO LAGOON”
Reservations will be accepted a week before the canoe date. Join a guide as you explore this rich and diverse estuary up close. Some experience is preferred. You must be at least 8 years old and able to paddle. You must wear covered shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). Bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Dress to get wet. Individuals with their own kayaks or canoes are welcome to join in. Call (386) 428-3384 ext. 0 to reserve your spot. Meet at the Visitors Information Center at 9:45 a.m. We will leave promptly at 10:00 a.m.

    FRIDAY 25th - 1:00 PM - “ELDORA WALK”
Take a stroll through time down to the Eldora State House and learn what it would have been like to live in an agricultural village around the turn-of-the-century. Meet at parking area #8. (1 hour)

SATURDAY 26th - 11:00 AM - “COAST TO COAST HIKES”
Join an experienced leader and learn about our barrier island ecosystem. Start exploring the mangrove ecosystem and work your way to the beachside to explore coastal flora and fauna. Meet at Turtle Mound parking lot. (90 Minutes)

    SUNDAY 27th - 9:00 AM - “SUNDAY CAMERA HIKES”
We’ll take a short, scenic hike to capture the beauty of Canaveral National Seashore in photographs. Bring your cameras, sun screen and insect repellant and wear sturdy, closed shoes (no sandals or flip-flops). Meet at the Visitor Center.

The rangers there seem to be happy about having us and more than one has asked if they could come check out our hammocks.
