It's a selling point of the spindrift. It lets you use a smaller tarp than you would otherwise be able to use, which means you need less area for your tarp, have less of a big wet mess to pack up when you break camp, and can probably get away with less total weight for the same amount of protection from inclement weather.

It's most assuredly a selling point of the idea of a sock - perhaps that selling point comes with other tradeoffs, but arguing the semantics of "selling points" seems absurd to me.
