I remember a thread here about some guy who sleeps in his hammock in central park, but up in the tree somehow....:what:

Saw this thread but I didn't respond because I can't answer the OP question. He wants something close like a park near NYC. I usually hike in Harriman state park and I don't think that's the location he wants.

Cheers for the suggestions, guys, I'm thinking Astoria and Saxon Woods are likely the closest.
Any other suggestions would be most welcome - thank you.
Appreciate the nod for John Jay Park, Shug - love the videos, keep 'em coming.
Sorry i never camped overnight in Astoria Park. But i have set up and chilled all day in my hammock. Right now after work i would bring my Kindle and my Dinner (takeout) with me and hang all night untill late in the evening.
For a quick overnight. Heirmann state park is just an hour away. It has great trails and shelter if needed. I have camped out there twice already. I really enjoyed it. Hope this helps.

You guys in Westchester should look at Ward Pound Ridge. It is a great place. I recently spent my first hammock night there. They have no problem with hammocks either.
