1 oz of down + <0.5 ounces of fabric + some cord to hold them together, and you too can have your own down sleeves!

That's ~1.5 oz each. A pair will run you a shade less than 4 ounces depending on your shell material and how warm you want to be.

I strongly advise that you make a practice sleeve with cheapo fabric before doing this with the "good" stuff. After a lot of practice making a few prototypes, I was able to knock out this pair in a day (and that includes all the photo ops). This project is not for the faint of heart, but for experienced sewers it's not difficult. It just takes time to weigh the down packets and stuff each through a pencil sized hole.
