And you could use synthetic pleather if you'd rather use dinosaurs than cows.

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
Okay, back to the original subject. How did you decide to stay warm: pad or underquilt?
I decided to go with a pad to start (I have a bunch of CCF pads I can try/cut up). I figured I would try the cheap route first and if it does not work for me, I will go with the JRB Nest as it seems to be quite popular.
Even if the pad does work, I will probably try some sort of quilt in the near future.

for your size..under 5'10 and under 200 lbs..right now hennessy has a sale on where you buy the scout and it comes with the usual tarp ..plus it comes with his hex tarp..( 1 hammock 2 tarps) all for 79 bucks..for your size that might be a deal...the only diff i can find between the scout and the exp is the rope size they are the same dim... anyway it was just a thought

Thanks for the info, but I already purchased an ultralight backpacker through one of their clearance sales (demos, etc). I purchased the hammock without fly and will be purchasing a maccat delux tarp as soon as I get around to contacting Brain.
Thanks again for all the tips everybody, I just got my hammock in the mail today and it looks awesome. I can't wait to get out there and try it out!
