Total newbie that I am if I were you Id read somebody elses post , but if I suckered you in then here is my plan . Hopefully good to zero fahrenheit .
Create a rectangle ( sort of ) with one long side 12 feet one side 10.5 feet and overall width of 5 feet .
whip the ends and form a hammock with app one side 1.5 feet longer then the other side . Make a triangl with a roundy point and sew it onto the long side so that the hypotenuse reduces the length of the 12 foot side to 10.5 feet and a pocket is formed for my feet .
Cut the foot box on a M 1949 GI issue sleeping bag to allow the footbox end of the hammock to pass thru the slit I made .
The slit will be on the right side of the foot box rather then the end so that the footbox of the sleeping bag will coincide with the foot box of the hammock .
The M1949 is a large mummy bag fillled with feather and down . It was replaced by the ECW cold weather bag whiich was then replaced with the hated MSS sleep system ( hated by me that is )
These can be bought for 50 bucks from army surplus .
Ok so now the pod is mostly formed by secureing the head end of the bag and zipping it up with the hammock suspended inside the bag .
Top quilt in my case will be made from the black bag portion of the MSS system .
One could add an underquilt into the bottom portion if necessary but hopefully not .
This all should weigh in about 10 pounds . So wish me luck .
Incidently if this has already been done please give me a link to the thread .
THere is so much info on this sight I have trouble finding what I need .
