So, I am at my favorite fabric store today, just browsing since I am in between hammock projects. I am in the batting section and see that they have wool batting. It is about 3/8" thick and comes 90" wide @ $19 per yard. It got me thinking, how effective would an underquilt be if I made it with ripstop nylon as the outer shell and the wool batting as my insulating fill? I know that wool tends to breath vs. down, but is also very warm. I would have to quilt it in the middle to keep it from moving around. I just think that for weight and space, this might be a path to venture down. To make it more effective, I was thinking of doubling the wood. Before I jumped into this, my wife suggested that I go to the fantastic folks here at the Hammock forums to get your take on it.

What do you think???
