Pack up my Golite Jam 50 and got an early start hiking around 6:30, gets hot here in Ga this time of year. Hiked 8.37 miles on the Lawrence shoals campground trails on lake Oconee. (This is where we are having the October hang). Pitched my hammock, tarp got everything ready, took a bath in the lake (very cold water) then crashed in hammock for a couple of hours. Laid around until bout dark when nice thunder storm rolled in, not much rain but lots of sound and a very nice cooling wind. Had just dozed off after the storm when a beaver slapped his tail on the water, just a few feet from me. He went on with that nine more times ( i counted). Adrenaline finally settled down and
Then I heard what at first what sounded some children in distress, this is around 11:00. Turned out to be an Owl. I have heard them make some strange sounds but nothing like that. I burned a lot of adrenaline that night. Packed up this morning and hiked on home. Good night hanging. I am new to backing, trying to get into shape. Pack weight with food and 1 liter water 17 lbs. The trails cross a few small streams, stopped and treated some water along the hike. I went through the liter pretty quick. lake is just to the left in picture about 8 feet away. I was not bothered by any bugs but around dark thirty i pit the bug net on just in case.
