I watched 6-7 youtube videos and eventually gave up trying. You all must be Hercules to get that rope pulled back through. I even put one end in the vise and put my full body into it, and promptly fell on my butt when the tool broke.
Love walking around the craft stores and faces you get when asking for certain things, "You want to do what!"
THAT'Z GREAT SPORT!!!
being one who rides motorcycles, camps, hangs, sails, builds wooden boats, builds street rods......, i often get that response, when working thru an issue/situation/problem/project
there used2waz stores, shops, craftsmen/women who could & would THINK
so often, now, if you can't relate your *#@&*%^$# to a specific MAKE & MODEL OF A PARTICULAR BRAND of WHATEVER, you might as well be talking to a tree
fortunately, my local O'REILY'S & WEST MARINE both have kids who love seeing me come thru the doors and are up to the challenge(s)
as for the OPs original issue, you might try starting out making DOG LEASHES out of SKI ROPE
SKI ROPE is made the same way AMSTEEL BLUE is and is way cheaper to play with
take a 6'-8' piece of SKI ROPE, splice a 2" loop in one end & an 8" loop in the other
push the big loop thru the small one & there you have it, A DOG LEASH
SKI ROPE is slipperier than AMSTEEL so make your buries longer & LOCK THEM(never mind how i know this)
once mastered w/ SKI ROPE, splicing AMSTEEL will be a cinch
i seem to have the best luck using a simple/cheap wire bent in 1/2 & pinched @ the bend for a fish tool
GOOD LUCK!

I just knocked off a half-dozen whoopie slings using my baseball glove lacing tool ( Like this one <click here> ) 0008332133364_300X300.jpg

I use a fishing leader. I use pliers and squish the hole in the leader closed, push it up the amsteel, then when it's out, I use a pencil or something round to open it. I put the amsteel in the hole then, using the pliers, squeeze the hole in the leader. Don't know if that makes much sense. But they can be found at any fishing/outdoor center. Super cheap too.
+1 on (non-wound) electric guitar strings. FWIW I have a few extras from broken sets - if anyone wants one let me know & I'll mail 'em out.
you are holding the main body of the burry from the wrong end
hold it @ the end you're pulling out of, not the end the burry starts into
and keep the length of the burry scrunched up & OPEN
otherwise, the braid acts like CHINESE HANDCUFFS & locks down on the tool & tail, inside the braid
TECHNIQUE!
it really is a 2-finger feat...
re-read my post #26 and play with some ski rope
