    do i NEED a ridgeline?

noob here... i have a GT Ultralight and an ENO ProFly tarp. i have never slept overnight in my hammock but i have logged time just lounging in it. as it is, i currently just run a line from the center guy-line attachments to my tree straps and call it good. should i be using a ridgeline? is there an advantage to a ridgline and, if so, what is it? also, wouldnt a ridgeline eventually compromise the waterproof coating on the underside my ProFly?

    thanks!

(NOTE: i have more than enough Amsteel to make a ridgeline. i know that may be a little overkill, but i love the stuff and its all i use)
