I have had good luck using a GoLite Poncho Tarp. Got to love multi-use and light weight. You have to fiddle a little to get it right the first few times put it is still quicker then when I set up my big 4 season cuben tarp

How do you setup the poncho tarp when its poring down the rain? Just bite the bullet and get wet?
Yeah. I string the ridgeline and then move fast to get it up. Only two stakes so is fast

Just found this article on backpackinglight.com that goes into some great detail about successfully using a poncho tarp in inclement weather. You must be a member to read or purchase the article but it may be of use to anyone who is already a member.

I have the Edge Tarp and really like it. The previous two months campouts have been in the rain, 1 of which was quite heavy. The good news is that I remained dry in my WBBB! I do plan to buy the door kit for wind protection in preperation for winter camping. I give it two thumbs up for light weight and adequate coverage.

I actually went out this weekend and used the edge with the BB. We ended up getting a lot of rain and wind so it turned out to be a good learning experience. I saw a couple of tiny drops that blew in and hit the under side, at the head end, of my hammock. Though, I don't think I would have really felt any water if I had been in it. My wife was in it for a while and never felt any water. It would take some pretty good convincing to try something smaller. If the ridge line had been just a couple of inches shorter I would have had water running down the lines to the hammock. It's hard to beat the edge when you are looking at the compromise between coverage and weight. I actually shot a little video of the set up, but I keep forgetting to pull it off my camera so I can post it. I learned a few things that I will share soon.
