I'm now in the awesome donating club
to make it painless and to encourage becoming a donating member, please post detailed and simple directions "how to" it ain;t difficult but in black and white it may hit home to a larger % @#$^&*
That's just it, this isn't about getting more donations or having more folks that do. It was about getting HF's main focus back on....hammocks.
All the Hammock talk at HF is completely free and open to anyone. The moderators see the off-topic forums as a 'benefit' to those that choose to donate....but not an 'incentive' to get them to.

I have a quick question. How do I donate?
Check the post right above yours.

I'm stumped. I'm sure this website uses expensive bandwidth and has a cost to administer. Are you saying you honestly don't care iif someone donates as long as that person is fine with just talking about hammocks and has no desire to be in the donators off-topic section?
I'm saying that we want the donations to be made if a member feels like they receive value from the conversations here, and want to chip in a little to keep it going in the future. First and foremost this site is about hammocking..the off-topic discussions are just icing on the cake.

Actually, I'll take it one step further and answer your question with a YES.
This site was started completely out of pocket, and focused on the quality of hammock information. As our membership grew, the donations allowed us to increase the bandwidth as well, rather than regulate the bandwidth by limiting picture sizes and such. But the focus was always on quality information and never on increasing membership, traffic or revenues.
So if a member would prefer to participate ONLY the hammock sections and never in the off-topic sections...well, that's exactly what this site was founded on. We're perfectly fine with that.
We're thankful for the members who do choose to donate...we just hope they donate because they think the hammock sections have enough value, and not because the want to access the off-topic sections.
So the new policy is taking us one step closer to what you described...people coming to HF to talk about hammocks, and not about backpacks, stoves, knives, etc.
