Is 550 paracord an okay material to use for a ridgeline? Unfortunately, paracord is all I have available to me at this time and it is relatively cheap and easy to work with.
550 cord is what I use, it works fine.

I too use figure 9's. I use the biner version though. Clipped to the D-ring.

I've been using 1/8" Samson poly. About 12' on each end with figure 9's. After reading this thread, I think I'm going to try the single tarpline with prussics to the ridgeline tieouts. It just looks sooo much simpler....

You can lose the weight of the biner by replacing it with a large bowline/equivalent loop.

    1. wrap loop end around tree
    2. put rest of line through loop and pull tight to secure to tree
