Gotta start getting ready now. Can't wait!
I am flexible on the location, but full moons for snow camping are special. Maybe Just Jeff scouted a place on the Rampart Range road.

I am planning a scouting trip to Burning Bear this weekend.

    I also can provide rides.

Are you going up to camp, snowshoe, or both?

If the weather is clear and mild I will hang.

Otherwise I will ski either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Just got off the phone with the South Platte Ranger Station. They have no renovations or maintenance planned for Feb/March and the campsite is, for a fact, a year-round site. Only issue, if there is one, will be the road conditions. They usually do a fairly good job of keeping the road to it passable, but one storm a few days in front of our weekend can change that in a hurry.

Can I get a current head-count as to who will be attending? There are a handful of campsites in the area, some of which are quite small. A little anal I know, but I always like to have a fallback plan in place. Knowing how many folks will be hanging will help eliminate certain sites.

I'm in. Undecided on Joker but he'll hang at the same site as me anyway.

Didn't see a site special enough for a hang on Rampart Range road, but I know one site we can use as a backup and I'm sure we could find one. Biggest issue is finding a central location that most folks can attend. I'm good with seeing new places so whatever y'all know that's good, I'm in.

There are a ton of off the road campsites within a 20 mile radius of this general area. Coffee and I saw some really good ones right off of a nice paved road when he was out here this summer. I'll have to go look for them again, but they are at a lower elevation (Burning Bear is 9,500') so if a storm does come through we should still be able to get to them.

Looks to be shaping up into a Garmin kind of weekend.

Welcome - this will be a great chance to see lots of different winter setups.

    Wanna see some bad video?

We went cruising around the mountains this weekend and decided to go on up to Burning Bear Campground to shoot some video so that everyone has an idea of what it looks like. Sounds like a great idea, huh? Well, I've decided my Flip camera is a POS. Image stabilization is terrible. Course, you see footage taken while driving over mountain dirt roads and me walking through mid-shin to knee deep snow. But still!

No audio unless you want to hear random tidbits of conversation, me breathing hard at 9,500', or me yelling at the dog. At one point during the drive up you'll see a campground on the left as we pass it. That's the fall back site. That much of the road is almost always passable unless there is a really big storm.

Bathrooms are open! No TP during winter, so bring your own. Even though the video is very jumpy, you should be able to get an idea of the site. Tons and tons of perfectly spaced trees for our usage, firepits with cooking grates, and picnic tables. If 100 people show up we might run out of easy hangs in the campground proper. The water pump you see is shut off for the winter months, so don't be fooled; bring water.

Anyway, here's some video of the ride up and the campground. I'll try to get back out there in the next week or so with my better quality camera and do a redo. Until then, here's some Colorado scenery for ya...and a fat dog running through snow.

BTW, I'm all upset. We actually found a trailer for the boys (donkeys) on Saturday. We were totally planning on bringing them to the hang for everybody to meet. However, if you look closely at the regulations on the board (towards the end of the video), you can see it says "No pack animals" are allowed in the campgrounds.
