    Alternate source of O-rings

Seems pretty much every thread here regarding strap and cinch-buckle suspension system use the SMC rings... has anyone else found or used another source for the rings?
I like ordering as much as possible from a single source. Save shipping charges, etc. I was going to order some polypro strap from strapworks.com, and noticed they sell O-rings, though they offer no specs on them... strength, weight, etc.
http://www.strapworks.com/ProductDet...roductCode=MOR. I have no idea if these would work or not.
They offer D-rings that are rated to 5K pounds, but I'm guessing the cinch-buckle system relies on the O shape of the rings to work properly?

I used those until I could get the SMC rings. They are relatively heavy, plated steel. I got mine from the local hardware store. I was using 1-1/4". Tried 1" with narrower muletape webbing and they started to deform.

The SMC rings are aluminum and 1-1/2", but much lighter and stronger.

    does size matter ?

I have seen another brand "omega" rappeling ring at the local REI. I was there for the SMC brand but they were out (and not planning to get any in anytime soon) I could not compare them side by side but from what I've seen in pictures, the "omega" rings looked quite a bit thicker. I wasn't sure how they would grab the strap, and they cost an extra $1.30 each, so I decided to hold off for a while.

    has anyone tried these ?

I don't think I'd trust those. They look kinda flimsy and aren't weight-rated. Better to invest a few extra bucks and be safe than sorry, IMO.

I have the Omega rings and they hold fine using 1" poly from strapworks.

    Cool SMC "O" rings

I'm waiting for mine as we speak. I ordered from SummitHut

    http://www.summithut.com/products/descending-ring/

Quite excited to start using them.

FYI, I called strapworks for more info after a D-ring failed (sorry Hangin' Burrito). They were very nice but said that as most of their 'stuff' comes from over seas, where a weight rating is not required, they could not offer solid answers.

the omega rings are a little heavier if your concerned about weight. you can order the smc rings from the rei web site and have them shipped to the store and they wont charge shipping.

Thanks Opie . . . good to know.

    Great Idea Taz, Thanks!

I liked the Omega ones because they looked cool (nice and thick, neat color, almost pewter . . . and the laser etched "Omega") But if there is a weight And cost penalty then I might just have to think about it . . .

    function over form . . .

I've been hanging with these SlingRings

They are intended for baby slings but work great for me at over 200 lbs.
