I received my Gear Guide 12X12 tarp yesterday and I've been monkey'n around with it since. I think it will make a good winter tarp with just a few mods. Does anybody have any tips or pics for mods on it? The thing is huge! It is around 17' on the diagonal but I don't think that it's as heavy as the advertised 2lbs. I will weigh it at the post office later and post back. It will require 10 tent stakes and 60' of rope to pitch it in a winter mode, as near as I can figure, so there will be some added weight. It was $30 + $10 S&H + tax. It seems that it's worth the money but I guess that only time and use will tell. It's cheap enough and large enough that if you had the right situation in your yard you could set it up all summer long in the back yard and let it get fried by UV rays instead of an expensive tarp and hamock. It's so big that, if you paid the slightest bit of attention to what direction you set it up in, your hammock would never be in direct sunlight. I'm looking forward to making the mods and taking it up to the BWCA in a week! ANY advice would be appreiciated .
