yeah you're probably right about the snakes....here we have anything from rattlers to cotton mouth so I usually think snake.....watching it again though it seems if it were scat there would be more 'stuff' around it if you know what I mean. it almost looks ready for trail stew as it is.

It's called an owl "pellet", and they are fascinating.
    Do a google.

I will keep an eye peeled on the next NCT trip.
Shug I did some researching into the snake populations of MN and the ullsnake or otherwise referred to gopher snake lives all over MN and into lower Canada. Its the iggest snake in the state and reaches to 6'. Totally non-venomous and is a constrictor....so the possi ility of it eing a snake still e ists. Most snakes in that state do tend to stay in the SE area, especially the poisonous ones so that's a plus to think a out when on the SHT.

Yeah Angrysparrow....those keys along with the last letter of the alpha et died on me yesterday and I dont have a spare key oard on hand at the moment. If I do get those into a post it's y using copy and paste ut that takes a lot of time and patience....Kind of think of this as my version of Wheel of Fortune ut you can't uy a vowel or spin a letter.

Looks like it was a fine trip!

Indeed, it looks like that critter might be a case of up-chuck... Can't imagine anything making it all the way through a digestive system and still be that recognizable.

Saw some teeny tiny snakes on the trail. After growing up in the South I have gotten so used to not looking when I step over a log.
Thanks for the interest in all things nasty!
    No "B"s in my post!
