Are there any REAL advantages though? Looking at it, it looks gimmicky to me. A sleeping bag takes advantage of the whole body heating one area-this thing separates your limbs, and cannot be nearly as efficient. I have a bivy suit I keep in my jeep for the winter, that looks similar to this, but I cannot see spending more than a night or two in it, tops, without being too cold.

I guess it is a bit gimmicky. The nature of a sleeping bag means its restrictive , getting a bigger one means it looses efficiency so its all a trade off. Its more confortable than any sleeping bag could ever be as the limbs can move independantly but again trade off is its heavy and not rated anywhere near as low as an equivalent price sleeping bag.

There are much better lighter warmer options but you have to get out of them all to pee or adjust the hammock or tarp

I kind of compare this and sleeping bags to gloves and mittens.

My hands freeze in gloves and are toasty warm in mittens on the same day, same air temperature.
