    Interest Check- Ozark Hangout

This was mentioned in my waterfalls thread, so I am starting an interest check thread here. I need to know who would be interested in doing a hangout in the ozarks, what time of year you want to do it, and what I really need to know is whether or not this should be a car camping type trip or more of a hiking/backpacking trip.

In the ozarks there are plenty of good long trails we could do a hangout on, or we could basecamp at a campsite and drive around to do dayhikes. I've not had problems in the past, but with that many folks showing up, we might not be able to hang from trees in the campsites.

Might want to have a chat with your friendly Ranger type; just sort of explore the possibilities?

    Count me as interested.

A hiking/backpacking hang trip sounds fun to me, but I'm flexible.

I have to admit I'm a little interested, but I don't have strong opinions about when or where.

There's no reason to chat with rangers... I already know the answer. Official policy is that we're not allowed to hang anything from trees. One person doing it discreetly and having a go-to-ground backup plan is one thing. 10 or so people doing it might become a problem.

I would be interested in a spring, pre-tick, Ozark hike/hang.

In fact, Jan, Feb, March would be great.

I called the Buffalo Ranger station and they said you can hang your hammock as long as it doesn’t strip bark off trees. This is good for the Ozarks of Arkansas.
    So were good to go…

How about just driving some big spikes in the trees to hang from?

I'm almost afraid of asking permission for something like this.

pack some tree huggers and give the rangers a demo... if they can tell which trees you hung from; agree not to do it anymore. (?) just a thought...

Pefer early march myself....spring break time/ away from the party crowds if possible.
