    Hey! New here...

And I'm flat-out sick of sleeping on rocks lol. I've been looking at hammocks for awhile but I'm not quite sure what to get. I'm strongly considering a Speers, but I'd like to know what yall think about 'em before I go run out and buy one. Just tell me all about them, and what you'd recomend, if you'd like.

P.S. I hope I put this in the right place! Thanks in advance.

Welcome to HF! This is addictive and you will be buying lots of goodies here. I have 2 Warbonnet BlackBirds which are incredibly comfortable. Mine are the 1.1 double for my son and 1.9 double for my mid age girth. Double for flatter lay and great for placing a pad when not using a UQ.
Do the research on this sight. In the end, youwill end up with more than one anyway.

Beep's right -- that's a great thread with lots of great advice and gear suggestions.

If you have the opportunity, see if you can try before you buy anything. At the very least, consider purchasing an inexpensive hammock (<$20) to get the feel of how things work. This is one thing I wish I did when I first started; however, it has been a great (and expensive) learning experience going from hammock to hammock.

The all-in-one kits make hammock camping very approachable and easy, like purchasing a tent: everything is there. If price is an issue, sometimes the all-in-one kits are more affordable when you consider all the components that go into a hammock system, but you can mix-and-match to find a good deal.

As I said before, see if you can try a hammock out before you invest.

Welcome Tinker! You asked about Speer hammocks. I have been using one exclusively for about 5 years. They are very uncomplicated and practical. I liked being able to sew it myself (on a cheap Brother sewing machine). I have considered going to a more elaborate setup, but I am more of a hiker than camper, I guess. I find the Speer light, quick and easy to set up, and extremely comfortable. I actually rest better in my Speer in the woods than I do at home in my bed. YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Speer Hammocks have a very strong and loyal following. IMO they are rather narrow, or appear to be to my eye. That is simply one factor to consider. I'm not dissing on the Speer. I simply know with my own needs and preferences they would not be very effective. All the more reason to check out the range of what is available.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
