Slings on a Hennessey

Or leave the stock line attached to the hammock and attach the free end via bowline to the dead eye loop of the WhOpie sling about 6" out from the hammock? This way the stock connection to the hammock remains intact but you get the benefit of the WhOpie sling. And the bowline is a safe and secure knot that doesn't stand a chance of failing.

That will work, but then you have the weight and bulk of two suspension systems.

You can always reinstall the stock line to the hammock if you ever want to sell the HH in its original form.

I would have to agree with Opie ...... at least until he finishes his tinkering.

The locked loop on one end it probably the MOST secure way to attach to the HH with Amsteel blue. Use my method at your own risk cause it is slippery stuff.

That is the direction I am leaning. Im going to give the Hennessey method a try today. Ive still got the ends uncovered.

OK... here we go. The red is with a fixed loop and the orange is a modified Hennessey copy.

The first two are with my weight on them...

I think the copied/modified Hennessey would work fine. It locks up nice, but is easily undone. I trust it to hold, but dont trust it wouldnt come undone or eventually slip out from the manhandling of hanging and taking it down. This is in comparison to using the fixed eye, in that theres no way it can come undone.

If you want to not use a fixed eye...

What if you pulled the tail back through the hole and then tied a figure 8 stopper knot in it for a factor of safety, last ditch, if all else fails, attachment?
