I found the nemo gogo replacement air bladders at
    http://www.moosejaw.com/
for 11 bucks a piece and in stock, so.......

I decided to go with this to start out,
hopefully they will be the right size,
or I'll just have to make them fit!

this should get me farther into the prototype/design phase
and let me know for sure that this idea will work.
it works on the gogo and morpho tents ......
next I'll sew in something to hold the "airbeams" in place (once I have them)
cool, a freestanding blackbird bivy ...... perfect !

So as a bug bivy, you only need to keep it off of your body rather than expanded as a whole tent. Could change your design concept...only need one tube, etc.
I have to adgree with Just Jeff, it would be much easier to carry and set up
a "tarp tent" ground cloth, tarp, bugnet.....but that's me.
It will be interesting to see what you work out. I assume there's times
when forced to ground that this could come in handy

so you'd want to carry both? your hammock and a tent?

Here I got it modeled a little better using those foam pool noodles.
I got to come up with an air pump next,
something for the airbeams and the air mattress.

Now that's a clever use of pool noodles. Just use those. When not camping just float them behind the kayak.

I got on the phone with moosejaw.com this first monday morning of the new year and got my order changed and shipped.
I got two of the gogo airbeams but I also got the morpho front and back airbeams as well. 2.5" diameter vs 3.5" diameter between the two tent beams. from here I'll be able to see length and diameter differences and what might work best. now I'll have to wait on ups .......

through my research I've discovered that the airbeams do have their problems. they sometimes develop slow leaks and holes as they were made to be lightweight. an oz here or there isn't going to kill me, so when I make my own I'll have to select a tougher material. I don't want my airmattress to leak or develop holes either! so I got some testing to do ......

I'm not sure what type to go for, they have a smaller one for the gogo and a larger one for the morpho. I'm gonna put this off for now and see what type of valve is used on the airbeams, and what type of valve I'm gonna use for my air mattress (which uses much more air, hence bigger pump).

they are just too bulky to be carried along anywhere. also I'd like to leave the airbeams installed into the blackbird so there's no extra fussing around. I'd also like to leave the air mattress installed and just roll up the whole contraption and stuff it into a sack, again less fussin' around.

I do like the idea of airbeams installed and the whole roll and go concept. Keep posting, I am enjoying the process and learning from you too.
