personally I find the best way to keep my gear organized is to keep it packed. I put all my base gear in my pack, the sleeping bags go in there giant stuff sack. so all I have to do the next time is add the right sleeping bag, food, and water, and I'm all packed.

Nice frawg. Those pics may come in handy for insurance reasons, if anything happened?? fire theft earthquake etc.? Keep a copy of your pics on a disc at a freinds house.
We had the work trailer broke into a few years ago, and the cops wanted pics of the tools that were stolen "yea, I go around taking pics of my tools!?" He was serious, a picture tells a thousand tales.
Insurance co. wanted pictures too. And of course without receipts and pictures...??the ins. co. sure likes to collect your money, but try getting it back on something legit.

so guess who was company photographer?? for the next week? yea I have lots of tools! total list now with serial numbers and receipts. If I ever catch that guy(s) who took my stuff....

ok done whinning back to our regularly scheduled thread.

So it sounds like most everyone doesn't have a backpack setup to leave to go in ten minutes notice. And it looks like I'm not alone. I have to have two tote containers just for the empty containers that have possibilities.... LOL

Trout, I do keep some things in one of my packs, (hammock, tarp, a stove and some other kit) but after a while and ten stoves later, you gotta store it somewhere.

And you know what they say, "out of site, out of mind" Can't let Mrs. G see ALL the stuff, she won't let me buy more.

Sorry you lost your tools, gargoyle -- man, that sucks! Worse than horse stealin'!!

Great idea on the insurance reasons-- hadn't thought of that. I do keep important stuff with me, encrypted on an 8GB microSD card in one of those really small USB drive adapters. I also load it up with stuff from portableapps.com.

Edit: just dawned on me that you could email encrypted attachments to yourself at a gmail account, and archive it in the "All Mail" folder.

Yeah, I snuck buying some heiniken's and fosters cans last night and hid them, so the wife wouldn't give me the 1,000 ft stare. My side can opener won't cut the lid's off the can's so I gotta now figure out what to do... lol.

I have one of the $10 Walmart side cutters, and know what you mean. I was tempted to get one of the expensive ($20) side-cutters I saw at Target the other day. Anyone know if that model will work with Fosters or Heineken cans?

I have the Target store one and it fails miserably. I'd love to know which brand works with ease!

Can't say about the Heiny can, but I used the Wal-mart one on my Fosters can. It works best of you cut off the little bump out guide that it has.
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.
