    Ontario Hang

    Greetings Everyone

A while back it was suggested that a group hang be organized for all of the Ontario hangers that frequent hammock forums.

At this point, it is just a matter of figuring out answers to the 2 main questions. The where and the when.

On the where, the first immediate spot that comes to mind is Algonquin Park and do one of the loops on the Western Uplands backpacking trails.

On the when, anytime Spring through Fall would be good. All depending on whether or not we choose to deal with bugs.

This is an initial message to gauge interest and see what can be organized.

All comments and suggestions are welcome at this point.

    Cheers

    Brian

I know that most of you guys are up North, and Algonquin is a stones throw away, it's 8 hours away for me. (not counting Toronto traffic).

I would be much more likely to attend something more central (i.e. Owen Sound is only 4 hours away). There are lots of great places to hang around Georgian Bay!

I would love to attend, but 8+ hours is a bit much.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

I'm interested in getting together depending on mostly on dates.

Hey Rug, I stayed at Awenda Provincial Park once. If memory serves, it's got plenty of trees and mosquitoes, and claims to have a beach and 3 group sites.

I'd be interested, but late summer or early fall would be best for me. I'll be coming from Detroit area.

Awenda used to be awesome!!!!! It was my all-time favorite campgrounds growing up. I went there every year with my family. Then once around 1993 I went by myself (after a 1-2 year absence), and I was disgusted to see that they had cut down half the trees and added twice as many camp-sites!!!!!

I wept I was so saddened by the destruction.

Troop: you can ride with me if ya want, if the time/place is right.

Georgian Bay would be a great area. After a bit of digging, I found the Bruce Trail, that goes from Niagara to Tobermory.

Like I said, most of my camping has been in Ontario Provincial parks and car camping at that. So this is initially a thread to find out the good places for a group hang and what area to choose is going to be a group consensus.

So throw out suggestions for places and we will narrow it down as time goes on. BTW. Algonquin park for me is getting close to a three hour drive.

    Cheers

I would be interested in joining you guys. Awenda sounds good or the western uplands trail. I am planning to hike the east coast trail sometime mid to late june and early May I have a trip planned for maple mountain ontario.

the bruce trail sounds nice for a hangout.

I will keep a eye on this posting to see where and when. Being a new hammock camper it would be nice to meet some experts for some trick an tips.

    Hey guys,

Feel free to make suggestions on where a good place to do a hang would be. As I said, my knowledge of hiking and hanging spots in Ontario is quite limited as I am new to hammock camping myself.

Be an active participant in getting this first hang going.

    Cheers

    Brian
