If I could get a cuben tarp I could go even lower. I'm waiting for all the experts to burn in the learning curve before I venture off that cliff.
The Nano 7 was a little tricky to get a good lay in. With a pad it was even more complicated. If I was able to stick it with the IX underquilt it would have been more simple.
What I found was you gotta trust the hammock. With a normal width hammock you have some fabric still on the sides when you get at the right angle so you feel like you are still IN a hammock. With the Nano 7 you feel like you are about to roll out of the side when you find that spot - at least I did. But once I got it, it was like butter.
What I would recommend to the Cuben hammock guys is go a little wider than the 48" width that the Nano 7 does to get that feel back. I think (I don't know for sure) that the optimal width while still getting the totally secure feeling would be about 52"-54". Mountaineer is going ~52" with his cuben hammock which probably does the trick.
