    Expedition or Explorer?

So i am interested in purchasing my first hammock, and i am going to get a Hennessy. I am about 6'1" and 195lbs, and I'm wondering if the Expedition would be large enough or should i definitely go with the Explorer. Anyone around my size have/use an Expedition? It seems like most of the ones people have for sale are Expeditions and not Explorers and the cost difference is somewhat significant.

I have one of both. Both are standard and not ultralight. Both will work for you. What I found for myself is that I like the roominess of the Explorer deluxe. I am 5'8". It gives me the ablility to sleep in different positions and I don't feel as cramped as in the exp. If you look at the specs on both you will see the size difference. If weight is a consideration, explorer definately has weight penalties. Good luck on your choice!

Explorer all the way. The Expedition will be too confining for someone your size.

Also, if I can spend a little of your money for you. Get a zipper mod done. Best $50 you can spend on a hammock. I like the #2 mod. http://www.2qzqhammockhanger.com/

Also consider changing out the suspension...those knots get tedious when making adjustments.

At 6' the Expeditions are too small for me. Not that I haven't slept well in them, but the difference in comfort for me between the Expedition and the Explorer is like the difference between vanilla and chocolate ice cream.

I'm 6'1 and have the Expedition. I can sleep in it quite comfortable. It is the getting in and out and all the squirming I have to do to get comfortable that I dislike. That was somewhat reduced when I moved to a quilt vice sleeping bag; but honestly, if I had asked this question before I purchased it, I wish someone had answered with "get a warbonnet blackbird"! That is what I'm getting next and my son can inherit the Expedition (likely after the zipper mod).

For a minute i thought this was a reference to Ford SUVs. For me, roomy is important, I just sleep better not feeling confined.

No doubt the Warbonnet is a good hammock, but with a #2 zipper modded HH you can open the netting up completely. I like this since it lets me reach around and under the hammock to check and adjust my under quilt. Also allows you to lie under the stars with an unobstructed view when you want.

Each hammock has its plusses and minuses.

Get a warbonnet blackbird. I was one click away from buying a Hennessy, until I typed "better than hennessy" in the forum's search box. Now I own two .
