sheesh that's a lot of weight. 19 ounces more than my maccat
Of all those tie-outs, as silly as it sounds, none of them are positioned to use it as an A-frame tarp.

It's more of an entry level tarp. There are lighter tarps out there, but they cost more. Some (myself included) want something to play with while they evaluate the lighter options.

Further mods to the Guide Gear 12x12

One reason the GG 12x12 weighs so much is that it is huge (16 square yards of fabric). I weighed mine and it weighs 27 oz (without stuffsack and guylines). That is 1.7 oz per sqaure yard. That's not bad per square yard.

If you want to save weight, cut your GG 12x12 down to an 8x8 diamond tarp (see Jacks or Better for info on their 8x8) and you would have a 12 oz tarp!

    All for $25

And lots of left over fabric to make a hammock sock, stuffsacks, etc.

If others turn up there nose at your gear, oh well. Maybe they have more dollars than sense.

Im not too concerned about weight at the moment. When I eventually upgrade my tarp I might mess around with the GG tarp, like you said cut into a smaller tarp. Maybe I could make a small gear hammock with leftover fabric. Who knows? I appreciate the ideas.
