Interesting project

I thought Id share this here. I can not divulge to much information as this is a project in progress. I can say that a group of my friends up in Da UP are shooting to break a Guinness world record.

A friend of mine in this group asked if I could Get ahold of and splice some line that can withstand 60,000. So of course I said yes.

The picture Im about to post is a sample that I need to send up so they can take a look at a mock up of the fixed eye. The actual rope will have a SS thimble in the fixed eye and the rope will be around 200' long.

Ill leave the rest up to your imaginations. They are hoping to hold the event on July 4th.....

The blue is 1" Amsteel Blue, the Gray is 7/64

Oh yeah... This stuff was a pleasure to work with. No tools needed to splice. I was able to open it up with my finger and push the tape covered taper right on through.

Anything that needs that kind of restraint involves more energy than it ought to. Tell your friends to be careful. In my kite-building days I met a guy who knew a heck of a lot about kites - did everything right. Later, helping some people fly a large kite for a record, he got killed.

WV.... Its a college class called "Team problem solving."

Every year they have a project and for the past 3 I think, they have gone after a Guinness record.

So far they have the worlds biggest golf tee, and the worlds biggest skateboard.

This one... Yes does have a bit more danger involved. I think they are over estimating by a good margin the limits of their design. But it is being overseen by the professor and Im sure several other competent individuals.
