They're welcome to follow me all around the backcountry just to see how I'm planning to sleep. I have a feeling there's much more to being a Ranger than worrying about this though.

Well i'm too far away to know anything about the parks there but how often do you actually see rangers when going to these parks??. If you rarely see them what's the problem or go out back as someone suggested. Having said that if this is a real problem i think its a good thing to hop on this right away before the idea starts being adopted in other states just cause.

In State Parks, you are generally camping in a campground, near a paved road that is used by Rangers, other park staff, & volunteers that keep an eye on things.
Not my favorite place to hang but occasionally it's what works best for one reason or another.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
When I'm looking at a North Carolina State Park to use as a camping spot for my Scout Troop, I always ask if they have a "wilderness camping area". The State Parks that I've found with them and actually used, all of these wilderness areas are a hike in and out type deal. There's sometimes a pit toilet and no water. If a Ranger did come by, they've only ever asked how we were doing. And I and any one else in my group that's using a hammock, have always been very open to talking about our hammocks. Gotta say though that we've never "asked" if hammocks are baned. And we've never been told to take them down either.

Well, we have this problem in Fla. State parks. They don't want nothin' hangin' off the trees. Took a group of scouts to Myakka River state park ( we were all tenting); a couple of yahoos came into the canopy campsite. It was a pretty large area which had about 4 sites. All of a sudden we hear someone chopping on a tree. I walked over there and asked what he was doing. He told me he had to cut a V inthe tree so his hammock rope would quit slipping down. I told him that wasn't nesscessarry and showed him the HH figure 8 method to hold his walmart mesh hammock up. This kind of ignorance is why they place these kinds of bands, like putting nails in trees to hold up the clothesline. Well at least maybe I taught someone a method that he will use next time he wants to relax in his hammock without causing damage.
I'm sure someone here can correct me on this. While in FL last spring, I found that many of the parks forbid tying anything to a tree. I hope this doesn't spread. Nothing more alarming and powerful than an ignorant mob.
