    Dogs in Hammocks

First off I'd like to say what an amazing forum! I'm brand spanking new to the forum. I stumbled upon the forum the other day in search of reviews for hammocks. We are a small organization that spends close to 365 days a year in the field using rescued dogs to locate scat from endangered species. Our most recent study was a census in Cambodia for tigers. After having slept in a hammock for an extended period on this trip, I was sold and I've been trying to determine the best bet for supplying our teams with lite durable hammocks from the US. Our Cambodian hammocks were $10, with an attached zippered mosquito net and a quilted bottom. I'm not quite sure how to add photos here yet but will try to do so soon. You can see some of the photos mixed in here if you like, http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...d=171836484559 .

Handlers and dogs each had their own hammocks in Cambodia. The dogs loved them and would pretty much go right to sleep in them. I was curious if any of the members of the forum have had good or bad luck with dogs in their hammocks. Would the material hold up to dog nails? Would the dogs able to get in and out on their own (for example, I can't see a dog getting in through a HH bottom)? We're of course looking for low pack weight and easy set up as we'll be on the move each day and usually packing up in the dark before sunrise.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Heath

Our dachshund loves to curl up with my wife in hers. We've never tried the big girls in hammocks.

My 50# Standard Poodle has slept with me in my Hennessy with a zipper mod. I was a bit crowded but she was fine Had to lift her in but no nail damage.

I mustn't let my 90lb. Lab see this! I've promised her my tent soon as my Blackbird arrives. She loves cat scat, too, so she'd be on the first flight outta here if she knew what you were up to :P

My 60lb mutt insists in getting in with me anytime I set up a hammock in the yard. She thinks she is so special...

My cocker paniel sleeps with me in my HH....I just hold open the gap and she hops on in, then I lay back and she finds a spot and lays down -- no big deal at all

    Thanks

Thanks so much for the replies. I actually tried searching the sight for dog related issues but wasn't able to sort by "dog" for some reason. I'll check out the DIY section as well. Glad to know the HH held up to the test. I've been leaning toward those or the Clarks.

    Cheers!

My dog is around 80lbs. He has ripped two hammocks with his nails. Both hammocks were single layer light weight material. Now days I make sure he is on top of the blanket or I roll him in so his feet dont touch.
