    Gravity Filter

I finished my gravity filter from Just Jeff's website. I ran some water through it and had some black discharge at the very beginning. Is this normal for a katadyn pro hiker filter? I had to give it a short siphin pull to get it goin but it flows good, small air bubbles in line.

Some times yes, there can be loose particles of the charcoal that need to get flushed out the first go. Should work better after the first litter or so.

Yes...what you describe is "normal". The black is a bit of charcoal powder (non-toxic, btw).

O and the Siphon thing is kind of normal with gravity filters as well, got to get things going a little some times. Once the filter is wetted it should do better but still may need a little encouragement.

FWIW, I had Paul Gibson's (Arrowhead Equipment) Aquasimple filter out for a live field test on the Superior Hiking Trail this weekend. What a great "piece of kit"!!

Super simple and sufficiently fast as to make clean water a no-brainer!!

Since the Amigo Pro filter is no longer available, Paul's Aquasimple is a real winner in my book.
