    Knot Strength Cumulative?

Is knot strength (or weakening) cumulative? For example, if I tie a knot in line that retains 80% of the line strength, will tying more of these knots reduce the strength further and further?

I'm thinking of tying multiple butterfly knots in a line. Will I dwindle the strength to nothing by putting in 5 or 6 of them?

    Thanks!

I do not think it is cumulative. It would just fail at the weakest knot/point.

    Thanks, Dyee.

So the way you understand it, my hypothetical 2000 lb. rope with a knot that retains 80% strength would be 1600 lb. strength regardless of whether I put 1 knot or 6 knots in that line?
