    Attention All Gram Weenies!

I'm looking to buy a scale to weigh my kit.

What brand/kind of scale do you recommend? What is the cost? Best places to buy? Any other info you can think of?

    Thanks, Randy

I bought a kitchen scale from Meijers. Made by Taylor. So far its been very reliable. And IIRC, it cost $30.

Pelouze model SP5 $30 at Staples

Weighs in 1 gram or 0.1 oz increments up to 5 lbs.
If you have any equipment that weighs more than 5 lbs., now you have a reason to toss it :-)

You need to choose between a "sit on top", or a "hang from" type of scale. Most any decent food scale works well for stuff that you'd sit on top (pot, stove, etc). If you want to weigh a pack or something, you'd probably prefer a hang from scale. I don't find fishing scales to be all that accurate, but most bike shops will sell pretty good hang from scales.

I got an Escali for around $30. Weighs in grams, ounces and pound/ounces. Also has the Tare feature ..... put on a stuff sack or such ... hit the Tare button and it subtracts the weight.

The Tare feature really helps. Lots of gear won't really stay on the scale. This allows you to put a basket or whatever on the scale; hit "tare" and start from zero with the basket or whatever not counting.

    Very useful feature

I just got a cheap digital kitchen scale from Walmart...like $20 or something. It weighs to .1 oz or 2 g and has a tare function.
