I switched needles.
from 14/90 to 16/100 and I still get small loops or just a line on the bottom on a t-shirt.

Is this larger than usual thread? If so you may be exceeding the capacity of the machine to deal with it particularly if it is a cheaper machine. They are made for home purposes and not industrial supplies.
Is your top tension up as high as it will go?
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Here is a thought... If you really think the problem is the bobbin tension you might try this... Since it is not your exclusive machine... see if you can get a second bobbin case. That way you can have "his and hers" bobbin cases set to different tensions for the different threads. Then your wife could have her settings and you have yours.
This would be helpful if you are using a large diameter industrial thread. IMO there is no reason to use that stuff for DIY projects. Maybe if you are producing gear for professional sale. I've used regular household sewing thread for a myriad of projects and have not had the stitching fail on any of them.

Try it on a completely different fabric and see what happens. Change nothing else. Use a little swatch of nylon. See if the problem changes any at all. If it does, it's just the tension. Try denim. Problem changes, just tension. Try whatever your wife sewed last sinces she's so smart. No problems, tension.
When I'm sewing on nylon, if I switch to a t-shirt material, it's a train wreck. Switch back to nylon - works fine. It's a tension issue. Different fabric calls for different tension.

They make polyester thread in several weights (thicknesses). If you have the thicker size, switch to some thinner weight/size.
Wally's has a thick, uv resistant thread...my machine refuses to run it.
What brand, weight, etc. thread are you using????? On the bottom of the spool there is a sticker with info and numbers...whats it say?
http://www.syntheticthread.com/fabri...size_chart.htm This site has a description of what thread to use on which material.
Thick thread is for thick material..heavy denim, canvas, thick cordura, etc.
Thinner materials, like sil and lightweight ripstop, need a thinner thread.
Use polyester thread, just make sure its the right thickness.
ps..grossman's ??? I think you mean Guttermans.

Ambulo tua ambulo.
I'm using Guttermans poly thread, all the info was on the shrink wrapper that I put in the trash
I'm sewing 70D coated nylon.( trying to make a tarp) I guess I don't need thick thread for a nylon tarp anyways.
I'm going to Joannes today to see if they have thinner Guttermans. Tex 16 thread.
also, last night I tried using a bigger needle and that did nothing.
It looks like my machine (Singer Inspiration) can't handle a thick thread.
