The next one I make will be lighter by about 2 ounces!

Not complaining ... very happy with the IX UQ .. Played with it last evening and find it to nicely handle the HH and my fav winter Mutt. Looks like it will increase comfort and save some weight, bulk and fuss.

Headed out for a damp 6 day tour with our new supervisor .. night temps forecast at 37-40ish.

Oh, no, it was not in reaction to your post. I didn't convey my excitement... it was just last night that SmithOBX and I figured out how to shave so much weight!

I've no previous experience with UQs, in fact never even seen one before.

As good as imagined, IOW very happy with add'l warmth and reduced bulk and reduced weight and less setup hassle. Night temp range on trip 33 or 34 to about 40* with a couple days and nights of rain and showers.

It also worked well with a diyMutt which was stashed in a patrol cabin. New boss will be getting a hammock and he also likes your UQ.

I assume adding a DWR shell will add a little insulation w/o inducing condensation??

I don't think it is worth the effort. IX is already water resistant, so the DWR shell will just change the color and add weight.

I do use a 2QZQ UQ Protector but it's mainly a winter accessory.

    Glad it worked for you!

Mak i think the pad in the footbox will help you...i had the same problem ..could never stay on the pad...so i cut one down to fit in my foot box and work like a charm
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
