    MARPAT Ripstop (Help Me

Ok, folks, I finally got off my big butt and bought some material. I got it on ebay in an auction for 1.9 oz ripstop. The material came today and I'm not sure exactly what it is. It's fairly heavy, slick an shiny on one side (brown color in the photos and I can't blow air through it no matter how hard I try. Does this just mean it's DWR? Or do I have some other material altogether?

Edit: For anyone who needs to see this material, I'll bring it to Hot Springs with me. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any opinion whatsoever.

Hooch it looks coated to me.
Measure it out and weigh it. I bet it's closer to 2.2
    See if it holds water.

I bought something just like that the other day at WalMart in a color somewhere between OD and a brown. I think it's coated and I believe I heard Jeff call it something like "calendared" in one of his threads or his site.

Looks like PU (polyurethane) coated "waterproof" not breathable to me. I could be wrong...

It's coated. I saw the exact same stuff in the $1 bin at the Richmond Rd. WalMart in Lexington. I passed it up because I of the weight and it was camo (like Hammock Engineer, I'm not a huge fan of camo.)

Other than a winter hammock, what would this stuff be good for?

I've got some in a golden brown I just found. I weighed it this morning and it is 3.2 ounces/sq yd. I'll bring it this weekend in case someone might want some of it. I have 15 yards. I'm thinking it would be OK for things like backpacks or lighter duffel bags.

yep, i have several yards of that type stuff (green). about the only thing i might use it for as far as backpacking would possibly be the bottom of a backpack or maybe corner reinforcement patches on a tarp.
but it seems like there should be something non-backpacking it could be used for...
    tool pouch or tool transport,
a tarp to be left up long term in the yard for hammock testing,
    tarp for car camping....
I too will something make and joy in it's making

If it's the same stuff that was at WM (and it does look exactly the same) you could make a tarp from it. The stuff I saw was waterproof. You could always make snake skins, a few stuff sacks, or a BB sack.
