    Window 7 Alert possible solutions

In a recent post someone mentioned they were having problems with Window 7 giving them alerts when browsing HF. I thought I would make this thread to discuss possible solutions for the issue. Feel free in this thread to talk about any ideas you might have as a work-around.

Thoughts that have come up have been...

    1: Change to Firefox browser

    2: Consider OSX operating system

    Any other thoughts?

I'm not seeing this problem but other sites that have caused issues by going into your firewall/security settings and specifically setting permissions to clear the site at issue. I'd advise caution on most sites but with HF you should be safe.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

Mine works great, I am using Firefox and Hawk-eyes suggestion is a good idea. If it isn't safe here, it won't be safe anywhere.

I was using Firefox when on my Window 7 machine and had no issues here. the only place I use any other browser is at work, and I'm locked out of all forum sites there anyway.

Go with the Mozilla Cult ;-) - you wont regret it, more stable and user freindly plus a ton of cool, free and functional add ons.
And remember some good anti virus- personelly i use Avast, a bit slow but free, intuitive and safe

Solutions: Disable the current Firewall and/or Antivirus. Install some sort of Anti-Malware Software and a less invasive Antivirus, as well as CCleaner (highly recommended).

A Firewall isn't necessary unless you are not behind a Router*, as in your CAT5 cable is connected from your computer straight to your modem. This setup is not recommended, but a Firewall would be make it more secure.

*A router will automatically prevent most outside connections unless you give it permission (think port forwarding).

EDIT: I also advocate using Firefox over any other browser. Next to that would be Google Chromium (the nightly dev release of Google Chrome -- doesn't have any nasty stuff in it).

FireFox and I dont get along. I dont have any issues with IE8 and Im not a member on the anti Bill Gates wagon.

Its only happened twice in the last couple months....

Ive thought about trying out Ubuntu, but thats just one more thing to set-up. From the reading I did its not as plug and play as Windows... and the last thing I need right now is something else that takes more time!
I am not a gram weenie. , But Im starting to see the merits!!!

Actually, Ubuntu and Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) are very much plug-and-play compared to older versions of Linux, Mint being even more so than Ubuntu.

Most people will be able to 'plug and play' right from install. On my laptop, I had to make ONE change due to the built-in sound card drivers, and the built-in webcam isn't picked up (known issue with drivers for that webcam), which isn't an issue for me.
