    Well! Luck has walked by!

So I'm killing myself looking at the different hammocks I could get. One is great for non-Winter, another here and there, attached bug net, not attached, snakeskins, warts, in-grown hairs, etc. Driving me nuts. Mostly though I know if I don't buy right then it will cost me this Winter blah blah blah.

But then I remembered..... my mom owns a furniture store right here in town! She has all the equipment needed to sew whatever I need! Can I get a woo-hoo?

This means I can pick out some plans, buy some materials, and have someone who knows how to make industrial seams show me how it's done.

So I call my mom (mudder!) up and pitch the idea. She told me that she had just returned from North Carolina and had visited a custom hammock booth at a convention and had thought of me since she knows I camp, etc. She had came back and spoke to one of her workers who had a boyfriend who made his living making boat covers.

With all the above resources I should be able to make a decent hammock and a tarp, right? And if I want to make a sock bug net to keep in the pack for emergencies I think that would be righteous.

I should say so. That's a chunk of resources you've got there. Better start thinking of really nice Xmas gifts for them now.

I've only read a small portion of all the posts here but it seems that something that would be useful is the Winter tarp with doors that close well. I noticed a nice one is one of Shug's videos and it answered a question I had in my head about dealing with less than ideal Winter conditions.

Now I have to start learning about the different materials and sources for them. I know they are already contained in threads (posts) but I have to come across them.

    Woo Hoo!

...if you don't sew it yerself, tho', it won't be DIY, it'll be MBM (Made By Mom), and they'll have to move this thread.

Sil for tarps, and rip-stop for the hammock(there are different weight's of the rip-stop)! You can get all you need from the manufacture's here on the forum, and there are a lot of them that sell the material's! Just go to their site and you will find what you need!
One site that isn't listed here on the manufacturer's list is Thru Hiker, here is a link to them: http://thru-hiker.com/materials/index.php
Good luck with the DIY stuff, and we want pic's when you're done!!!!!!!!

Good point! I asked her if she would HELP me. Meaning show me how to work the machine, get the needle out of my finger, wipe up blood, etc.

That's right, and remind WonderMonkey about the gear policy: no pics, it didn't happen.
