    Beware Joann's polypro webbing

Just finished a DIY hammock complete with arrow shaft toggles, whoopie slings and ridgeline last night. I've got some permanent straps/toggles on my trees and had been using those but thought I'd test out my webbing tonight. I bought some 1" polypro webbing at JoAnn Fabric.

Lets just say that gravity won that battle. I weigh 190. I'm sure glad my kids hadn't hopped into the hammock with me yet . They got a good laugh at me.

It snapped just above my marlinspike hitch.

Can anyone recommend a source for webbing that doesn't stretch?

Polypro webbing comes in various weights... Lightweight and heavyweight. Make sure you got the heavy weight. The difference in tensile strength is significant between the two. Also make sure you actually got polypro. There are other content materials that look much the same but aren't. I don't remember what I got from wally world's craft dept one time but it wasn't polypro. It was however a related compound. Snapped in two on me without much provocation. I use strapworks webbing. But there are other vendors on the forum who sell high quality webbing as well.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Buy polypro webbing from Paul Gibson at Arrowhead Equipment HERE.

Speer Hammocks, now Tree to Tree Trail Gear, and Jacks 'R' Better are great sources of poly pro and hammock suspension systems.

    Question

Is polypro webbing what you want for tree savers? I thought 100% polyester was preferred? I bought some 1 1/8" 100% polyester from Joanns and it hasn't dropped me yet.

I had 2 guys hanging off the same strap 2 weeks ago, but now I'm worried it's the wrong stuff. It sure is light.

Polyester strapping may be found at various lumber yards. They use it to band loads together. It is heavy duty and usually rated by weight strength. It has worked for me so far.
