Goose Island, possible Texas Group Hang location

How's this starting to look? wow, this is one big ol'tree!

these pics above (except the huge tree) are from this location and from my scouting this is the best area to have a group hang, lots of trees of the right size and distance apart, but the area is all close enough together but far enough apart for a good group gathering.

I was here this past weekend (12 June 2010) and it was pretty warm. I slept in my blackbird with no insulation or top sheet, just shorts and a teeshirt. no rainfly but there's plenty of skitters so have your bug spray or other choice of bug defense.

Please tell me you didn't hop the fence to tie off to the 1,000-year-old live oak

Yeah, Goose Island would be a nice spot to hang....although we've said in the past that it should be names "Skeeter Island" instead!

nope, this wasn't the "BIG TREE" but it's still pretty impressive!

I'm thinking once we get some outdoor air conditioning working once again!

It's still a drive for me to get to this but it's also a pretty good drive for everyone else I'd imagine huh?

this was this night before ....
on High Island, on the old and washed out hwy 87
I had been using this tent too much lately!
I did a 20 kayak trip along the texas coast and had to use the tent the entire way. After this night I said, NO MORE! I'm gonna hang in my hammock !!
I've scouted out Goose Island before but in my other trips the timing was always off until this now, I was gonna get a good comfortable night of sleep this time!

I rode old 87 with my street legal dirt bike from hwy 124 up to McFaddin Beach (near SeaRim State Park, or what's left of it)

    Nice pics!

Goose Island is a cool place...got a war story to tell when we get together.

The Rockport Oyster Festival is around the first of March...we could do worse...

and besides, I got some payback to deal out to those oyster beds for tearing up the bottom of my kayak! I'm gonna chomp on those guys like they did my hull!

Unfortunately, all the good hammock sites are not the sites for avoiding skeeters. The bayfront sites usually have a steady, mosquito-scattering breeze but have nowhere to hang.

Oysterfest is a BLAST! I'm not a fan of oysters, but after a few mugs of beer the spirit of the event takes over and I manage to down a few.
