Adjustable Structural Ridge Line Idea ~ WBBB

I initially had trouble with the ASR on my Black Bird. Since the BB is a covered hammock I had to run the ASR (opie’s) thru the gathered end. I attached the looped ends to the larks headed chain links as Brandon does with his ridgeline. That was fine on the fixed end but the adjustable loop end was not able to rotate when making an adjustment. Basically, the max length was fixed and anything shorter created a loop as shown in this first picture.

Came up with a solution, after some frustration, to get the adjustable loop end to move properly. I removed the adjustable loop from the chain link and replaced it with a 3” continuous loop (opie Zing It) and reattached the adjustable loop end via an S-Biner as shown in the 2nd picture.

I now have a fully functional ASR on my BB. You may ask why an S-Biner? ~ because I had one laying around. I’ve been sleeping in it (indoors so far) and it’s holding fine.

And as a great side note, the ridgeline is now detachable for day time use as a recliner or chair without the ridgeline in the way - for some of us.

gunny... You beat me to recommending this by mere minutes!!

Ive had several questions as to whether the ASR will work with the BB.

This would work with the HH as well.
I am not a gram weenie. , But Im starting to see the merits!!!

    .

This is exactly what I have had planned to do for some time now with my HH. I like the thought of not having a RL when using the HH as a "chair".

Now if I can just find the time and get around to doing it...

I made an ASR, same as opies, worked great on my bb, no need for biners.

Fantastic! just ordered my first WBBB and was looking at Detachable Adjustable hammock structural ridgeline on DutchWare website and was trying to figure out if it would work with a blackbird. This post was very helpfull, thank you!

This is a bit of old thread but out of curiosity did you shorten the initial length of the ridgeline then? I know it's an adjustable one but I've always been under the impression that ridgeline a could only be certain lengths on hammocks with zippered bugnets otherwise undue stress gets put on the net and it could rip. just wondering if the max adjustability was set up to account for that or if you just simply keep it at the shorter length when the bugnet is zipped up.

I thought so too. Is the WBBB's ridgeline structual how it comes or is it like shockcord or something?

The Blackbird hammocks come stock with a fixed structural ridgeline. I've found no reason to change the length of it myself. I do have an adjustable zing-it ridgeline on my Wilderness Logics Lite Owl that I added since it didn't come with a ridgeline. I set it to how I wanted it set and never touched it again.

Lengthening the SRL on the BB more than an inch or two is ill advised. You can shorten it more but it is made for the 100" RL so there isn't a lot of room for major adjustments. As Pizza said, the standard length is good for a majority of users.

Better than the continuous loop is to make a soft shackle with the opening portion inside the hammock. That way there's no need for an s-biner and its super strong for shallow hang anchor points.

Sorry for the poor picture. Standard gathered end Black hammock, in my dark office, only the suspension (gray) and the SRL w/soft shackle (red)..
