took advantage of the weather for an overnighter

Finally got a forecast of no rain & lower temps with a cold front passing through, and I didn't have any work scheduled for this morning (self-employed). So my 10 year old son and I grabbed our packs and hung out in the woods last night.
That's a big advantage I hind in hammock camping vs tent camping for us. Each can carry his own shelter/sleeping gear and I can carry the food for both of us. It takes very little time to set up camp when we get there, so a late start is no problem. We keep the packs loaded and ready to go, so when opportunity knocks - we answer!
It was nice last night! Temps dropped to about 60F and I actually had to grab my fleece pullover about 3:00AM - sure was nice to feel a bit cold for a change!

Good for you! Glad you were able to get out with your son. Time spent in hte woods with you your kids are very special times. Both of you will treasure and remember them forever. Hammock hanging is a great bond builder between parents and kids.
