    I miss winter.....

I like camping in the cool to cold weather much better than camping in the heat and humidity this time of year. With that said....there may be a solution so i wonder if any of you can offer up one of your favorite summer spots.....

Any one have any suggestions for places with access to nice water holes/waterfalls nice swimming in the nc/va/tn areas that they like this time of year?

Where's that secret spot you keep remembering fondly?

Here here! Summer used to be my favorite, but once I got an underquilt and some decent wool and fleece clothes, fall and winter are preferable.
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:

How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?

I'm definitely with you on the temperature. I'd much rather hike/camp in the cool or cold than in the heat and humidity. That's the maid reason why Dancer and I plan our annual long hike together in the autumn. That said, there's really nowhere right now to totally escape the heat and humidity of summer in TN/NC/VA. However, I spoke with a very reliable source who was nice enough to inform me of cooler temps in the highlands of VA this weekend. High 70's/Low 80's during the day and mid-50's at night.

This got me thinking, where can I go get my hike on this weekend, since I have a few days off from work. I'm leaving Friday to head to Damascus to start the VA section of the Iron Mountain Trail. I've been trying to get this hike done for a while now, but every time I get ready to head up that way for the hike, I get sick. I'm good to go right now, so it's game time. If you're interested in joining me, shoot me a PM.

By the way, this invitation is good for any HF member that doesn't already have 4th o' July plans and would like to join me. Shoot me a PM and we'll be hiking by 1300 on Friday.

Come with us on the weekend of 7/16-7/18.

Deep canopy, a bit of elevation and lots of water. With any luck, we'll get one night by a waterfall.

    Hooch...
reading this makes me feel quite the antique...I did the Iron Mountain Trail when it was the original AT
I'm betting leaving Damascus you'll feel heat!

Cooldays-I'm with you...sometimes it's too hot to hike. That is why God gave us the kayak, get hot flip over!
If someone held a gun to my head and sad 'you must hike' this coming weekend I would lean toward the Roan or Mt. Mitchell, anywhere I could keep above 4000 feet and in the canopy.
