    Smile Whooo buddy from Germany!!!

Time to say hello and let folks know that there is some freshly converted guy out there!...

Greetings to ya all out there from Heidelberg... from a new young-blooded hammocking fellow!

I guess there is more than a bunch of people here who have been inspired by Shug to try out the hammock instead of a tent. Well, here I am, another fellow Shug-inspired from-the-tents-men-converting guy. A thousand thanks to Shug!

I don't even remember how I stumbled upon his youtube-channel but for sure I was kind of very amused watching Shuggie Shug's videos there -- which inspired me to get me an old Pfaff 130 sewing machine (one of those kicking machines without electric engine) for an Euro from the e*ay-shore -- that machine is some heavy duty thing which can do two things (and will do for the next some hundred years): zig-zag or straight, that's it -- what else do you need...
Well, got me some heavier ripstop polyester (110g/m², got it cheap too) and sewed my very first most simple hammock about 2 months ago. I used el-cheapo paracord from China (220 lbs) just to find out that it sucks; that stuff bumped my buttock on the ground. Should have read some of the threads here at hammockforums beforehand. Guess my fall was also due to the angle of my ridgeline... won't happen again!

Now, Amsteel blue doesn't seem to be sold here in Germany. Instead I have shot an other dyneema-line manufactured by Liros which is sold in Germany. Almost 1/5" in diameter holding up to 2600 daN which should be something more than 5800 lbs -- I hope this will keep me off the ground.
Can't wait to get it........ and jump right into my hammock. Whooo buddy!

Would love to sew more gear but I need time and money for the raw materials (student). Have some meters of silnylon here which I would like to turn into a tarp (actually the silnylon is about 5x11.2 ft) -- not much but maybe there's someone with experience with very small tarps? I am not a tall guy. Any ideas for a simple pattern welcome! Do you think something like this would work out?

I also need to sew a down quilt and a backpack -- if there's money to spare. Would love to hang on the light side.

Need to get out and hike with that thing. Have only had the chance to hang out at daytime and sometimes at home. Hiked above timberline last year -- hammocking would have been impossible there (GR20 on Corse (France)).
Would have appreciated a hammock on my way from the Massif Central in France to the Atlantic Ocean at Fisterra in Spain in 2008 -- would have had more than enough occasions to sleep out in the hammock. Maybe next time!

Well that's it for now -- best greets and have fun getting out there!

Btw: Love the Warbonnet Blackbird -- looks like a decent hang! Is there a pattern out there for a poor student who wants to sew his own gear or is there no chance unless I want to get into some trouble with WarbonnetGuy?

Welcome to HF! You'll learn a lot here, be addicted in no time! There are some old threads on some of the info you seek, and you'll get help with your tarp by someone who has made one. Send pics when you make it. By the way, I love Pfaff machines.

Hallo Deutschland!!! Seriously, I use to work in Heidelberg at V Corps. We lived up the Neckar in Moosbrunn. Miss it so much. Welcome to the hammock forums. Drink it all in.

    Welcome to the insane asylum!

About the smallest tarp anyone seems to use around here is 8x8 (feet). That's 64 sqft. Your piece of fabric is 55+ sq.ft. That would be enough to make a 7x7, but that might be cutting it a little too close for comfort should a storm cloud appear. It would be enough to keep the dew off, but not much more.
