same issues we have here with the Sam Houston National FOrest and the Lone Star trail. Prime hiking season is taken up by hunters, so it is either the heat August and September (some oct time) and then Feb - May.
None the less, I might be interested in something in the Spring if I survive the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Next week.
bumping this one up. I still haven't forgotten...I don't quite have any dates on tap yet.
I did receive a topo from mytopo for the area. Nice laminated map. It shows some trails, and some appear to cross the ridgeline where the vegetation I'm interested in seeing can be found. That should keep off-trail hiking to a minimum, assuming I find the microclimates I'm after.
I'm sure not hiking when it's 100+, so regardless of my schedule, I'm staying in until there's at least a cooler spell. 103.5 today.
bump. I'm considering an overnight here this weekend - possibly Saturday night if all goes well with my schedule. I just got my thesis proposal draft submitted, and I won't have any comments to work on until next week.
