    S-Biner question

I just went to the Niteize.com website and it says the weight rating for a #2 plastic S-biner is 10 lbs. What does that actually mean? Can you use a #2 plastic S-biner for connecting your tieout line to a tarp. I do want it to be the weak link in the connection system. But I'm wondering if that rating is actually under-rated for liability purposes?

    Silly question huh..

    I be perplexed Barefoot.

Those should work fine for a tarp. JMHO

You should be okay with the #2 plastic rated at 10 pounds. I'm using the #1 stainless (rated at 5 pounds) successfully for my tarp ridgeline. I would expect the sustained tension on a ridgeline to be measurably higher than on the tieouts.

But beware the #0 plastic on a tarp. I used it on the tarp ridgeline, but it very quickly snapped in half.

    Yep,
I have some #0 plastic s-biners and didn't look like they would do the job , and that is why I ordered some bigger ones.
Thanks for the words of experience. Cedarman

I use the #1 SS for my Uq suspension, only b/c I couldn't find the plastic ones.

FYI...JRB carries the more popular sizes Niteize #2 in plastic and #3 Stainless S Biners for your convenience, as well as Small figure 9s in several package configurations and the small fig 9 carabiner.

It seems that everybody is as Opie would say "I'm all over it!" Anyone reading this thread now knows that a reliable scource of the S-biners most commonly used for Hammock stuff is at JRB's place. And Opie has given us some test result information. I have also received some PM's indicating that field testing has already or soon will begin.

    Thankee so very much guys.

Ironically enough, the place that I've had the most luck finding them is in truck stop style gas stations along the internet. For whatever reason they have all the sizes and all the colors.
