    Good stuff here.
    I am still on silnylon.
    Black is my color.
Spin and Cuben seem kinda whitish ..... or pale. Gonna get one though.
Are there any greens, black or such in Spinn or Cuben. I don't know.
    You are gonna have fun.

You can get olive tinted cuben, but it still reflects a lot of the ambient light. Cuben isn't opaque...

Fabric pic of the olive color from a Cuben MacCat -

I've never seen Spinn in anything other than 'gray'. I think it looks good, though.

I have Sil, Spinn, and Cuben tarps. I agree with Medicine Man that Spinn is the best choice of the 3 right now.

I been using a Spinn OES for a year or two now. In addition to the other pluses, I think Spinn is stronger than Sil. Not so sure how strong Cuben is.

Gossamer Gear's Murmur pack is made from blue Spinn.

I think the noise complaint about spinn is overrated. I have both a sil tarp and a spinn tarp and don't find the spinn any more annoying than the sil. When the wind starts whipping up, I use earplugs no matter which tarp it is.

Well, I appear to be in the minority here but I don't like Spinn very much. Mostly for the excessive noise and packability reasons mentioned above, and I also don't believe that it is any more durable or tear resistant than Silnylon. In fact, my experience has shown it to be worse. I do own a couple of Spinn tarps. If you want to go to the next level and are willing to pay more for it, Cuben just plain rocks. At HF Cuben is not all that well understood yet. There are lighter versions of Cuben fabric available that can be very fragile, and this has given Cuben an undeserved bad reputation around here. The fact that Brian at OES is transitioning to Cuben is a testament to this. There are very good quality Cuben hammock tarps available now. The picture below is from my backpacking trip last weekend to N. Arizona. We got fairly dumped on by rain. The tarp on the left is my MLD Cuben hammock tarp. The one on the right is Angelo's custom Cuben hammock tarp made for him by Zpacks. Mine is in the 6oz range, and Angelo's is in the 5oz range. My Cuben tarp has broken in very well now after several trips, and I love the soft feel and packability, it's just about as good as Silnylon. And one more comment. The silnylon tarp I had along for a common cooking area was a LOT wetter when I packed up camp. Cuben and Spinn both retain a lot less water.

drewboy - what's hanging under that hammock? It looks like a Garlington Taco with two chambers.

Hi Jeff. That's one of Mac's 2-layer Insultex underquilts. 8oz for a full length summer bottom side insulation. For me, it's good to around 50 degrees.

This website has some good info comparing several different types of fabric. Gear nerds, enjoy this.
