    Lightbulb Amsteel Chain Links

Hey all, so I'm looking at picking up some amsteel chain links. I see that they come in two differant lengths. Long and short.... why??

Does one have a benefit over the other?

For the purposes I have seen you want them to be as short as will do teh job. For example if it was too long you could be adding to the minimum distance between the trees.

Yes, some hammocks (those made by Hennessy) Need a little extra to secure the link to the hammock. Most others, including your eno, don't need that much to get them secured and can use a much sorter link. The only thing that it will hurt to use the long ones when you don't need them is that your trees will have to be further apart than with shorter ones.

What do you mean by 2.2? I know I should understand this but yeah, noob here, how does that compare to the chain links at arrowhead? Do you know the rating?

Senior member, yeah, lololol, I have no idea how that happened, lol. I know what mm stands for its just I dont have many ref points to mm rope. Other than amsteel I'm not really familiar with many ropes that small that could hold my weight. so I was just looking for someone to confirm a comparision of 2.2mm and the amsteel in arrowheads chain link. I know... I really didnt know how to get that all out in a short and timely manner.

I would say it is about half the diameter but that is because it is a tighter braid.

The lash/zing it 2.2 mm cord is not strong enough to hang a hammock from but is strong enough to use for continious ridgelines. The amsteel chain links that arrowhead sells is strong enough to hang from. I guess I should of asked what your intended purpose of the chain links would be. Are you looking to attach them to your hammock or use for a continious ridgeline? If it is to hang your hammock from I applogize I do not have any amsteel. But if its for a ridgeline or your just looking for some chain links I can still help ya out sorry for any confusion. And noob is only a state of mind, we can all learn from each other oohh and if you still want them its at no cost to you so its a win win situation.

edit: correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that 2.2 mm is not strong enough to hang from, am I under the wrong impression?
