2.2 mm zing-it (or lash-it, same thing) has an minimum strength of 450 pounds. Amsteel blue 7/64" has a minimum strength of 1400 pounds. The 7/64" amsteel blue is the smallest thing that most people hang from. Hanging from a 450# rated line, even if it's doubled like a link, would be a fairly bad idea unless you take lots of precautions to never hang tighter than about 20 degrees at most and never wrap the line around anything that will derate it very much. Probably not a great candidate for a link that will be load bearing.

Thats what I figured Boris, thanks for the clarification
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

    on the splice

    adding a layer:

i just made chainlinks following opies tutorial, but used less line-
producing a link that is mostly made up of the buries, and only about 5" of unspliced amsteel.

when attaching to my wbbb whipping, the girth hitch is set on the spliced portion of the chainlink, as opposed to the un-spliced portion usually available with a longer link.
WILL THIS AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CHAINLINK?
to me, it functions like a soft shackle, so my first inclination is:
    DON'T WORRY, HANG HAPPY!

also- the connection point of the chainlink to dutch biner is made at the locked brummel.
WILL THIS AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CHAINLINK?

i'm excited for this new suspension- (a la hawkeye & dutch), but want the shorter chainlinks to reduce hang distance.
