    Ohio Hanger

Greetings, all. I am a new hanger (no time on the trail, a little in the back yard), looking to get more serious. I am from the Cleveland OH area, and will get most of my hammock experience while backpacking (when I can find the time). We had gotten away from camping for a few years; might have had something to do with sleeping on the ground. Looks like it's time to find a new way. Doing a 2-night trip in a couple of weeks to Cranberry Wilderness, in WV, and expect that I will indoctrinate myself into hanging for real then. My first backyard experience did not go great, but I think I am working a few kinks out (with advice from you, even though you didn't know it). I am using a Speer hammock and tarp, so you may see me shortly on that forum with more specific questions. Thanks for being a great resource and community, and thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to making this work.

Welcome to you. Speer hammocks and tarps are mighty fine equipment. The back yard is the ideal proving ground to get your set up tweaked and to perfect your techniques

Welcome from down in Fredericksburg, Ohio.
You may also want to check out http://www.neohbackpackingclub.com. I've only been able to make it out with them once, but they seem to have lots of very active members. You might find a few local trips to get out & play.

Hey Buckeye Dave! Welcome to HF. There's a trip to Dolly Sods WV coming up in September if you're interested...

From one Buckeye to another, welcome to HF Dave!

The backyard is a very good place to get "Tweeked" Shouldn't have trouble finding trees in WV. Did some hiking in the Cranberry Creek area too, just beautiful... Most streams in OH have thick silt in it so it's great to see and experience the many spring creeks in WV.

My best tips on hanging is get your sag adjustments down so you are at optimum comfort for your hammock. Cinch buckles are good for rapid changes but love my Whoopie slings. Plan for the temps, then take extra... Those hollars can get cold at night!

Thanks, all. The Dolly Sods trip looks like a winner, although if I go out in August to Cranberry Wilderness, a second trip so soon might not be do-able (marital bliss, you know). I'll keep it in mind though and post on that thread if my plans change. Thanks, again.
